Star with Julia Roberts? Sorry, I'm busy
Felicity Jones was being told by her Hollywood representatives that ‘she’d made it’.www.dailymail.co.uk
One of the studios was offering her the title role of Snow White. Opposite Julia Roberts.
How could she turn it down? Easy. She was doing a play at the Donmar Warehouse called Luise Miller, which begins performances on Wednesday.
Felicity probably would have been paid 1,000 times the £400 or £500 a week she’s getting at the Donmar, but she was adamant she was doing the play. Michael Grandage, the Donmar’s artistic chief who is also directing the adaptation of Schiller’s play, told me a while ago that Felicity was committed to doing Luise Miller.
‘I’d heard she’d been sent all these film scripts and offered this role and that, so I asked her if we were still on for the Schiller and she told me not to worry about it. She’d made a promise and she was sticking to it,’ Grandage told me.
The race for Felicity began when people started watching her new film Like Crazy, one of the hits at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
I noticed directors, producers and studio bosses stalking her in cinemas and in the streets of Sundance and marvelled at how she handled herself.
There was no way she was going to be consumed by the Hollywood movie machine — unless it was something she wanted to do.
Meanwhile, the only thing on her mind at the moment is working with her fellow actors in Luise Miller. They include Max Bennett, Ben Daniels, Alex Kingston, Lloyd Everitt, Paul Higgins, David Dawson, John Light, Alexander Pritchett and Finty Williams.
